NOKIA X5-01 REVIEW
Nokia X5-01 is an latest smartphone, which has been put under the X-Series of Nokia Mobiles and unveiled earlier in June, 2010. It is a phone with a lot of features that one would wish to have in one’s phone. The phone comes with Symbian OS 9.3. The struggle to provide a better system of text input while keeping the size down is still ongoing. Touchscreen provides an answer of sorts, but nothing yet really beats an old-fashioned hardware QWERTY keyboard. The Nokia X5-01 is a device that is optimized for music and messaging. X5-01 features a full QWERTY keyboard and support for EGPRS, WCDMA, HSDPA/HSUPA (3.5G) and WLAN. Also includes a 5MP Full Focus camera, 2.36" QVGA display, uPnP, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, and USB 2.0 High-Speed. The Nokia X5-01 is a Symbian 9.3 S60 handset that’s powered by a 600MHz processor and comes with 200MB of internal (expandable using microSD cards). It supports Wi-Fi and 3G but unfortunately doesn’t come with a GPS chip. The X5-01 sports a 5MP camera with an LED flash that can shoot VGA videos. The Nokia uses a 950mAh battery which isn’t so great when compared to the 1200mAh batteries that are so common out there even among budget phones. The X5-01 has a small 2.36-inch display with 320x240 resolution and 256K color output. The phone is very small with dimensions of 74.3 x 66.4 x 16.9 mm (height x width x thickness) and a reasonable weight of 129g (which is deceptive considering how small the device is). For such a petite phone, the X5-01 is very well built. It uses an almost perfect mix of plastics and metal. The slide-out action (that reveals its four row keyboard) is also smooth and doesn’t unravel any shaky parts. Like most other phones in its price range, the X5-01’s screen doesn’t impress. The screen is colorful enough but viewing angles aren’t great and neither is its response to direct sunlight. The full four-row keyboard on the Nokia X5 has a long list of applications – from SMS and email, to IM and social networking. The Nokia X5-01 sports a dedicated media key too – it’s no square when it comes to having fun. The 5MP camera is a constant source of photos to share with friends and you can do it over Wi-Fi, no need for a data plan. The Nokia X5-01 is a full-blown smartphone too – 600MHz and 256MB RAM put it within a stone’s throw of the Nokia N8 performance. And the Ovi Store is steadily growing with new and useful apps. It’s clearly not a phone that will appeal to everyone, but some will fall for its looks and rectangular charm. And as far as non-touch smartphones go, the Nokia X5-01 actually ranks pretty high on features.
