Definition of Computer:
Computer is a electronic device which accepts data or information as input, processes it according to instructions and performs given task.
There are two types of computers.
1. Analog computers
2. Digital computers
Analog computer is a device that operates on data in the form of continuously variable physical quantities like voltage, current, temperature etc.
These computers are comparatively slow and less accurate.
These are generally used for process control applications in space and industry.
Digital computer is the device that manipulates discrete data.
Computations are done with discrete quantities such a7 numerical digits.
These computers are much faster than analog computers and computations are far more accurate.
The majority of computer used in the world today are digital computers.
According to size and capabilities, the digital computers are further classified as
1. Microcomputers
2. Minicomputers
3. Mainframe computers
4. Super computers.
