Here’s one category where Android is still no match for Apple Inc. (AAPL): mobile shopping.
On Christmas day, Apple’s iOS devices were used to make 23 percent of all e-commerce orders, according to a report yesterday from International Business Machines Corp. Phones and tablets running Google Inc. (GOOG)’s Android, meanwhile, only accounted for 4.6 percent. IOS customers also spent $93.94 per order, almost twice the amount of the average Android shopper.
Mobile devices in general have emerged as a more common way to buy things online, gaining ground on personal computers. They were used for almost 29 percent of Internet sales, up 40 percent from 2012, IBM found. Smartphones were more popular for browsing, while consumers spent more money when using tablets.
Apple’s iPhone and iPad have maintained their edge as shopping tools, even as Android products sell in far greater numbers. Android, which is used by Samsung Electronics Co. and other top manufacturers, accounted for 81 percent of smartphone shipments last quarter, according to IDC. Apple had 13 percent of the market.
Pinterest Inc. and Facebook Inc. also helped drive online shopping on Christmas, IBM found. Customers referred to sales through Pinterest, an Internet-scrapbooking startup, spent almost $87 per order, while those referred through Facebook spent $72. Still, customers that came from Facebook were four times more likely to make a purchase than the Pinterest users, possibly because they trust their Facebook friends more, according to the report.

Dressing Up Your Photo Collection With Pic Collage
Pic Collage is another free iOS apps that one can download to their devices which uses the iOS - to dress up the photo collection in the Camera Roll or even in the social network like the Facebook.
The app is easy to use, there are a number of the templates of the frames; or user can choose to be creative by creating free form collages, cutouts, filters, borders, stickers, and text. It doesn't takes up much space, about 22MB of space on the devices. With new iPhones and iPads coming out with a standard of 16GB and up to 64GB, there will be plenty of space to store up this free iOS app. Good news for those on Android platform, the app is supported as well, so although I'm blogging on the iOS version, I believe it will be the same for the Android version.
I have been playing with the apps throughout the Chinese New Year week - to compile the list of food at any time to prevent myself from uploading a number of photos to either my social network account or my blog. As part of the social network, you will get notification on any of the collages posted by your friends, as well as they'll be getting yours and it seems fun to have this kind of photo sharing on the activities that you and your friends are doing.
The only drawback I found in the app is when I'm trying to be creative and use the free form collages, sometimes it ended up in a mess and I need to redo. However, this free form collages are also the pros that I found in the app.
Overall, I found that this app is nice to use and it is a must installed app for those who like to takes photographs on many things in an event and wanted to post the photos as one compilation of collage.

PIP Camera - Companion for self-snapshots
PIP Camera is another free photography apps for both the Android and iOS. Try searching "pip camera" in Google Play or iTunes App Store and then you are on your way to download and install the app on your smartphone.
The app has the motto " PIP Camera is the best companion for self-snapshots! Make your photos extra fun with creative shots!" which is indeed quite true. It must be one of the best, if it is not the best, especially for people who like to do self-snapshots using smartphones - since most smartphones equipped with the front camera. And since it is free and takes up to 30MB of space for iOS and 17MB of space for Android, the app is worth a try. The app is preloaded with the template use to edit photos and this library of templates is constantly update with the pic-in-pic (PIP - this is how the app get its name, I assume) material.
I only manage to try it on the iPhone 5 which is using iOS 6, and perhaps that is why sharing of the photo to social network like Facebook and Twitter seems so easy. I download some of the pic-in-pic material like iPad and iPhones and have fun editing photos of myself. Good thing is that the app can be use on devices without camera like my iPod Touch, of course you can only edit the photo while for devices with camera, you can directly edit the photo using camera mode - and did not seems to lag on the iPhone 5.
Overall, I found the app is nice and easy to use, and since it's free, it is really worth to download and play with it. It won't hurt to get extra photography app, well, at least to me.

Apple iPad mini review, specs, price and released date

iPad mini is one of the most awaited gadget presence. Various speculations about the specs and price and design, especially the size of the screen has been widespread for a long time. But now that the iPad mini has been officially introduced by Apple with a screen measuring 7.9 inches.
Apple iPad mini display
The late Steve Jobs famously slammed 7-inch slates for having no real-life application, but it seems Apple has changed its stance on the matter as the iPad mini is now a reality. It packs a 7.9-inch LED-backlit IPS screen with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels – the same as the first and second 9.7" iPads. This time around the pixel density goes higher at 163ppi thanks to the smaller display.

Microsoft Prices Surface at $499 to Rival iPad
Read an interesting article from Bloomberg.com and feel excited awaiting the launch of the Microsoft next generation OS - the Windows 8. While I have seen how smooth Windows Phone 7 even with lower end CPU, I wonder how Windows 8 RT will be, although I remember clearly that during the demo of Windows 8 RT when Microsoft announced the launch of the Microsoft very own tablet - Surface few months back, it crashed somewhere. Windows 8 RT, do have similar code base with Windows 8 Pro, but with limited software written for it. Only software written in Windows Runtime (Metro Style app) can be used on Windows RT.
While it is clearly that this tablet will be using the ARM architecture, I wonder whether Microsoft will have any plan to come up with Surface "Pro", with full version of the Windows 8 and using the x86 architecture by Intel? If so, then it will definitely jolt the price of INTC as well as MSFT as consumer will have a tablet, and plug the snap-on cover, you will have a stripped down version of ultrabook. 2 in 1 sounds good to me - especially if it is priced slightly higher than the current top range Surface with free Microsoft Office pre-installed.
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) will sell its first computer, a device called Surface RT, for as little as $499 as the software maker pushes into the tablet market dominated by Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPad.
The first iteration of the device, powered by a chip with technology from ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), will be available as a 32- gigabyte model for $499, the company said in a statement. With a black cover, it will cost $599, and a 64-gigabyte version will be $699. The machine goes on sale Oct. 26, and Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft will take a limited number of early online orders starting at 12 p.m. New York time today.
The world’s largest software maker needed a device priced under $500 to lure customers away from the iPad and to compete with Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Google Inc. (GOOG), which are pushing prices lower in the tablet category, said Bob O’Donnell, an analyst at market-research firm IDC. The latest version of the iPad starts at $499 for a 16-gigabyte device that, like the Surface, uses a Wi-Fi short range wireless connection.
“Everything is pulling tablet prices down to below $500, so anything over $500 -- that is a tablet that is going to look expensive,” he said.
The snap-on cover, which includes a full keyboard, is one of the key features that make the Surface different from other tablets. Customers can buy the cover for $119.99 in black, white, magenta, cyan and red, according to the statement.
New Windows
Surface will be sold in Microsoft’s retail stores, including 34 temporary locations set up for the holidays. They’re also available online in the U.S., U.K., China, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Australia and Canada.
The tablet has a 10.6-inch display and will run the new version of Microsoft’s operating system, which also goes on sale Oct. 26.
The software maker is stepping up its assault on the tablet market as consumers choose the devices over laptops, weakening personal-computer sales and curbing Windows revenue. In the third quarter, total global PC shipments fell 8.3 percent from a year earlier to 87.5 million, market-research firm Gartner Inc. said last week.
Since the iPad went on sale in April 2010, Apple has led the tablet market, which is predicted by DisplaySearch to reach $63.2 billion this year. Apple has 61 percent of the market, according to Gartner. Apple may introduce a smaller, less expensive version of the iPad at an event on Oct. 23, a person familiar with the matter said last week.
Apple will probably price the iPad mini at $299 or $349, said Shaw Wu, an analyst at Sterne Agee & Leach Inc. An older version of the iPad sells for $399 in the U.S., according to the company’s website.
Google’s Nexus 7 tablet and some versions of Amazon’s Kindle Fire with 7-inch screens cost $199. Amazon also sells a Fire with an 8.9-inch screen for $299.

iPad 2
There has been a lot of rumours about how the iPad 2 would look like but if you do not know, it has now been official. And to make it even more lively, Apple CEO, Steve Jobs had made a special appearance despite having taken a leave of absence due to ill health....
It may seem that Apple has got it right again, with a thinner and lighter design of the second generation iPad. Apparently, it is even faster now...with the iPad using two powerful cores in one A5 chip. You will surely notice the difference when you are using it to browse web, watch movie, make FaceTime video call, gaming, and when you want to switch between apps. The smoothness and speed of the device will blow your mind away.
Well, the front and rear camera is here. For those of you who like the idea of FaceTime, you have it here with you. Imagine using the the iPad for FaceTime...I'm sure it will be much cooler with the larger screen and faster processor. If you think that the camera is just for FaceTime, you are wrong...it actually enables HD Video Recording. The camera is also good for snapshots whether it be day or night. The advance backside illumination sensor allows you to capture great shot even in low light.
Even with the new design, the battery lifespan is still as impressive as the first one...an amazing 10-hour battery life. This is definitely good for mobility.
We also have the new accessory made especially for the iPad, known as the iPad Smart Cover...
Well, chances are most people will still buy into Apple's idea. But if you are still not convince that iPad is the tablet for you, you will need to check out the built in apps...apparently, according to Apple, the device that does it all does even more now. Here are some of the list:

Viber - Free Phone Calls for Iphone, Ipod Touch and Ipad

Viber is a free Iphone application that allows you to make free phone calls to another Iphone owner who has the application installed. This application is currently one of the most popular free VOIP applications that are available in the iTunes Store and Iphone users who have downloaded the application can call whenever there is Internet connection be it Wi-Fi or 3G.
Viber is not only works with Iphone but it is also compatible with other Apple products like Ipod Touch and Ipad which use iOS 4.0 or newer. For Ipod Touch 3rd generation and older, a headset with mic is required to make the phone call using Viber.
After downloading and installed Viber on the Apple device like Iphone or Ipod Touch, one will requires to setup the application by entering a mobile number so that Viber can send an activation code to the mobile number. For Iphone, the activation code will usually be send to the Iphone, while for those who are using Ipod Touch or Ipad, they will get the activation code on their mobile phone. After the activation, Viber is ready to go and one will be able to save a lot of phone call charges by calling family and friends using Viber. Extremely good when call oversea.
One of the thing that I like about Viber is I feel that the sound is better than regular phone call especially when I'm in a Wi-Fi zone where the Internet connection is fast - assuming the receiver's Internet connection is the same. In the latest version, Viber includes call quality indicator, which really do me a great deal of favour in finding the location with the strongest Wi-Fi signal.
