Sony Xperia Z Ultra Review
Sony is most refined screen technology as found in a latest Display and X Reality BRAVIA technologies. IS now introduce then are premium smartphones, Xperia Z Ultra. It features a huge 6.4 inch TFT display of resolution 1920×1080 with pixel density of 342 pixels per inch. Interesting thing is that Sony is marketing it with two new terms “TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile powered by X-Reality™”.
TRILUMINOS Display
TRILUMINOS for mobile gives users access to a wide palette of rich natural colors thanks to Sony’s BRAVIA expertise. It presents rich, deep and authentic colours with subtle tones. It actually increases the range of colors that an LCD display can display by about 50 percent by the use of quantum dots. Quantum dots are best described as light-emitting nanoparticles. Basically, they are very small (2-10 nanometers) particles of a material that emits light. Depending on the size of the particle, which can be controlled precisely, quantum dots emit light in a specific wavelength, which the human eye perceives as a specific color. LCD displays uses white backlight, which is eliminated in the Quantum Dots technology. It starts with a conventional blue LED, which produces pure blue light. But that blue light also stimulates two kinds of quantum dots that emit pure green and pure red. With this approach, the only wavelength that passes through the red filter is the pure red emitted by the red quantum dots.
X-Reality Engine
X-Reality for mobile analyzes images, reproduces lacking pixels, optimizing quality for sharpest vids, also enhances composition & contrast. It up scales and sharpens the low resolution content adding depth and sharpness to it. According to Sony, the software breaks down the signal sent to the display into several components – texture, outline, contrast, and color. Each one is separately analyzed and processed, to ensure the clearest, sharpest, most attractive final image. Both Triluminos and X-Reality engine are the technologies of Sony TV division which are now added to the mobile division. BRAVIA engine was the first to be adapted for mobile phone. All of these technologies are great way enhancing the user experience on SONY cellphones.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra [HD] Big Screen Big Entertainment
Sony has introduced the latest offering in mobile phones which includes the feature-packed Xperia Z Ultra. This large-screen mobile phone is one of the best Android smartphones available for entertainment. Among the many mobile phones created by Sony, this is the first smartphone to get Full HD Triluminos display that is powered by the latest X-Reality for mobile picture engine. Its large screen experience is offered by the smartphone’s 6.4 inch touchscreen that offers Sony’s latest full HD display technology. The newest offering by Sony, Xperia Z Ultra is one of the slimmest and lightweight smartphones available till date. This mobile phone has a 6.5mm body and weighs only 212 grams. It is made of tempered glass that has a seamless surface on its front and back. It also features an OptiContrast panel which comes with a solid metal frame that looks attractive from any angle. Users will be able to select various colours for this smartphone including black, white and purple.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra - Camera Quality
While it doesn’t match the Xperia Z1 in the photo-taking department or let you put a T-Rex on your mate's head like that phone, you do get a decent 8-megapixel main camera. in the Xperia Z Ultra. It uses Sony’s Exmor RS image sensor and has a 16x digital zoom. Additionally, there’s a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and both cameras are capable of taking full HD video. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 in comparison hosts a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel main sensor with a f/2.6 aperture lens. The Ultra uses the same camera UI with settings displayed above the screen. While it lacks Social Live and the augmented reality based Info Eye, there’s still plenty of shooting modes to stir your creativity including Burst mode, sweep panorama, HDR and even something specifically to take pictures of food.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra- Album, Movies and WALKMAN New generation Media Apps
Sony is officially rolling out an update for its media applications – Walkman, Album and Movies. The most important change is these apps now have a better integration with all of your media in the cloud. The Walkman media app now comes with Sony’s Music Unlimited integration, which allows you to search across local and the cloud contents. The update also brings a few new social sharing features that enable you to discover, play and share tunes across your social channels. On the other hand, the latest version of Album app is now integrated with the PlayMemories and gives you the option to upload, access, and browse your PlayMemories library in the cloud. The Other noticeable update is the recall playback, which displays a slideshow, aiming to bring back memories of occasions and events. Lastly, the Movies app comes with a revamped user interface with a banner video function for trailers and recently played videos. The update also brings seamless access to Sony’s Video Unlimited.
OptiContrast
In an attempt to dispose of that all frustrating screen glare Sony have eliminated a layer of air in the construction of the screen on the Ultra, this brings the touch panel closer to the display. Labelled “OptiContrast”, the panel aims to reduce reflection and enable a clearer view of the screen, even in bright sunlight. This also creates a seamlessly black surface when the phone is turned off. With the removal of the layer Sony have integrated the sensor on the lens, this has increased the responsiveness of the screen, therefore your touch is more effective with the Xperia Z Ultra and the experience more intuitive.
Verdict
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a difficult phone to summarise. It gets a lot of things right - it's a scorcher in terms of performance and the big, full-HD display makes for a great viewing experience. However, it's too bulky for most people, and the large display means the battery life takes a hit. The camera performance could've been better too. That, in a nutshell, is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra - too bulky for most, perfect for a minority who believe big is indeed beautiful.
