Nokia N70

NOKIA N70 REVIEW

Nokia N70 is a smartphone released at 2005 and is one of the first phones seen in the first release of NSeries line of "multimedia computers" by Nokia. It is a smartphone that comes with S60 2nd Edition FP3 interface or Symbian OS. Since it comes with an OS, multi-tasking is possible. The physical appearance of the Nokia N70 is quite good. It is a small candybar style phone. Since it was a small device, the keys in this phone are made smaller compared to its predecessor, the Nokia 6680. The most notable problem in the keypad is the placement of the "2" key. The "2" key is placed closed to the down navigation key and it means that you might experience some accidental key press especially during typing in the keypad. On the right side of the phone, you'll find a RS-MMC card slot and a shutter button. The RS-MMC card slot can be hard to open for those people who have small nails. The shutter key is small and it is quite difficult to press. On the top of the phone you'll find a power button and a stereo loudspeaker. The power button is very small and if you've used Nokia 6680 before, you'll find it very difficult to press. The loudspeaker produces superior quality especially when playing songs using the Music Player. On the back, you'll find a 2 Megapixel Fixed Focus Camera with an LED flash. The camera outputs good quality in normal lighting situations and average quality in low-lighting conditions. The N70 is an unassuming handset. No flashes of bright colour, no twisty swivels, no oddly shaped buttons or curvy design. But the 640x480-pixel resolution front camera gives away the N70's 3G pretensions. To get to the main 2-megapixel camera you have to slide a very large plastic cover, which consumes around three quarters of the back of the casing, and is heavily disguised as a design feature.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G T959

SAMSUNG GALAXY S 4G T959 REVIEW

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is an Android smartphone that was announced by Samsung in March 2010. It features a 1 GHz ARM "Hummingbird" processor, 8–16 GB internal flash memory, a 4 inches (10 centimetres) 480×800 pixel Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, Wi-Fi connectivity, a 5-megapixel camera with a maximum resolution of 2560x1920 and, on select models, a front-facing 0.3 MP VGA camera (640x480). The base version of the phone, the GT-I9000, was specialized for each of the U.S. carriers, and released as the Epic 4G, Vibrant, Captivate, Fascinate, and Mesmerize. The name "Galaxy S" is used today for various models of Samsung phones that are different from the original Galaxy S, such as for the Galaxy S Blaze or Galaxy S Aviator. These are akin to spin-offs, rather than phones in the main "Galaxy S" series. The Samsung Galaxy S features a PowerVR graphics processor, yielding 20 million triangles per second, making it the fastest graphics processing unit in any smartphone at the time of release. Also, upon release, the Galaxy S was both the first Android phone to be certified for DivX HD, and at 9.9 mm was the thinnest smartphone available.

Samsung S5260 Star II

SAMSUNG S5260 STAR II REVIEW

The Samsung S5230 Star has a successor. The Samsung S5260 Star II, as it's called, assumed some of the original features and came up with some great upgrades. As a consequence, a capacitive display took over the old resistive one, there's a new Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity as well as a standard microUSB port. On the downside, the screen is the same 3'' WQVGA (240x400) and there's still no 3G connectivity. Although the Star II is no smartphone, the TouchWiz UI has been bumped to v3.0, a major update from the software point of view. As far as the social networking skills are concerned, the Samsung S5260 Star II will more than happily take care of all your needs. You will benefit from a phonebook featuring SNS integration as well as preinstalled apps like Twitter and Facebook. Also, music fans will love the 3.5mm audio jack, DNSe support and a microSD card Slot for cards up to 16GB. The phone is available in black and white and it's set to be released this Februrary, in European countries, India, South America and the Middle East a while later. With over 30 million sales, the original Samsung S5230 Star was a roaring succes, the only question remaining is wheter the Star II will prove to be a worthy proponent.

Samsung I997 Infuse 4G

SAMSUNG I997 INFUSE 4G REVIEW

The Samsung Infuse 4G may be AT&T's first true 4G cell phone, but AT&T doesn't appear to have the network to back up the Infuse's HSPA+ 21 speeds. The Infuse is the first phone we've tested that packs an extra-large, 4.5-inch touch screen. The 4.5-inch, Super AMOLED Plus glass capacitive touch screen looks amazing in person, with brilliant color and deep black levels. Super AMOLED Plus has the pure blacks of AMOLED, with better visibility in sunlight (that's the Super) and better colors created by a new arrangement of subpixels (that's the Plus.) With a 4.5-inch panel, though, it's time to go to a higher resolution than 480-by-800. This is the first time I noticed individual pixels in fonts on a 480-by-800-pixel screen. That said, the on-screen QWERTY keyboards are huge, even in portrait mode. Both orientations made typing long messages a cinch. Dialing numbers was also easy and fast. The Infuse 4G is a quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and tri-band HSPA+ 21 (850/1900/2100 MHz) device with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. It also supports HSUPA for faster upload speeds, and it works as a mobile hotspot for up to five devices with the appropriate AT&T data plan. But AT&T hasn't built out HSPA+ across most of the country yet, and it isn't available in my area outside Boston. With an average of 1.8Mbps down, with 138ms ping rates and upload speeds averaging 375 Kbps, the Infuse 4G was clearly limited by AT&T's network. The Infuse 4G measures 5.2 by 2.8 by 0.35 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.9 ounces. Even though it's razor-thin, the Infuse 4G is long and wide enough that anyone with small hands may have trouble holding it up to their ear for long conversations. The phone's crisp lines and nicely textured back panel help offset its plastic body. The overall effect looks trim and reasonably high-end.

Samsung R910 Galaxy Indulge

SAMSUNG R910 GALAXY INDULGE REVIEW

Samsung Galaxy Indulge is one of very first 4G network technology smartphone. The casing is of plastic and it fits in pretty nicely in your hands. This smartphone supports Android operating system and is also one of the first to use 4G on Android operating system. The display of Samsung Galaxy Indulge is 3.5 inch, which is slightly larger than most of the smartphones out there, however the screen resolution is limited to only 320 x 480 pixels. The four physical buttons have no backlight to help them glowing therefore it is very difficult to see them in the dark. It has a sliding QWERTY keyboard, which slides horizontally out from the bottom of the screen. As far as the user interface goes, the Indulge supports Android 2.2.1 Froyo and has been updated to Samsung’s Touch Wiz interface. The phone supports 7 home screens with widget selection and the buttons of the screen are shortcuts. The interchanging between the screens is very smooth operation while loading of the applications take a little while. The smartphone is well equipped with social networking services integration and all your contacts are presented in a detailed yet compact manner. In addition to SMS and MMS you can send Emails and you can also add POP3 and IMAP mail accounts. The phone is also backed up with instant messaging. You can use the Think Free Office application which enables you to view not only PDF files but also the file in Excel, Word and PowerPoint formats. The Indulge has 3.2 megapixel camera but with a relatively slow autofocus. The absence of color accuracy and flash light makes it unable to take quality pictures but in video recording the output is up to 720 x 480 pixels of resolution at 30 frames per second is very good when played on PC. The device can playback MP4, H.264, XviD and DivX but the colors will be dim. The music player can play the songs with an average playback quality. You can use the ear-piece of your choice with 3.5mm jack or a Bluetooth headset. Samsung Galaxy Indulge can use 3G or 4G network technologies but because of the lower resolutions mostly the web pages look pixelated and unreadable. The call performance of this smartphone is very good with no problem of background noise even if the volume is turned up. The phone supports 1500 mAh battery which gives a talk time of 5 hours and a stand by time of 12 days. So, overall Samsung Galaxy Indulge is a good smartphone but it has its limitations. It offers good user interface, call quality and battery performance which add to its pros. But the slow web browsing, downloading and low quality display will add to its cons.
